  • Healthcare costs are 70% higher for families with a migraine sufferer.
  • $36 billion is spent annually across the U.S. in healthcare and lost productivity as a result of migraines.
  • American employers lose over $13 billion each year.

While these costs are staggering, the truth is that most commonly offered migraine treatments only aim to treat symptoms.  This might seem appealing at first – when you experience the debilitating pain of a migraine, you certainly want relief as quickly as possible.  However, many people are looking to address the cause of their condition rather than just treat the symptoms.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Offers True Prevention

While most approaches to migraine treatment are concerned with managing symptoms, upper cervical chiropractic’s goal is to get to the root cause of the problem.  Many migraines can be traced back to a very specific misalignment of the upper vertebrae in the neck.  Your atlas (C1) and axis (C2) vertebrae are shaped very differently from the rest of the vertebrae of the spine.  Because of their unique shapes, they are more apt to misalign.  This presents a big problem in that these bones normally protect the brainstem, a very important component of our central nervous system.  However, when ones of these vertebra moves away from its normal position, it can hinder brainstem function rather than provide protection for it.  This also compromises normal blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) between the brain and body.

Pressure on the delicate tissues of this area of the spine and nervous system can be the underlying cause of migraines in many people.  At Kessinger Specific Chiropractic, we take a detailed look at the alignment of the upper cervical spine.  If there is a misalignment in this area, we work to restore the positioning of the vertebrae back to normal.  By doing so, we are able to relieve pressure from the brainstem and bring back normal blood and CSF flow, as well as normal nervous system function.  Many migraine patients have reported a reduction in the severity and/or frequency of their episodes, or a complete disappearance of all symptoms.
