Before we begin discussing what they have to do with migraines, here’s a little information on MRIs. Almost everyone has heard of an MRI or has had to have one at one time or another. However, few people know the name of the man who invented it and the upright MRI. This was Dr. Raymond Damadian.
He did much research on how the upper cervical spine plays an important role in the health of an individual. Through the use of the upright MRI, he was able to see that when there was a misalignment in the top two bones of the neck there was also a change in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. This fluid acts as a protection for the brain and spinal cord.
This change can mean that the fluid is building up in the brain more than it should and is creating intracranial pressure leading to migraine headaches, neck pain, tingling and numbness, and other health problems. This was seen in a case study of two patients who suffered from migraine headaches. It was determined that they both had a misalignment of their atlas bone, the top neck vertebra. Once this misalignment was corrected, their migraine pain was eliminated within an hour’s time. How can a person find out if a misalignment is the cause of his migraine?

Migraine Pain Helped Through Upper Cervical Chiropractic
An upper cervical chiropractor will be happy to examine a person’s neck to see if a misalignment is causing migraines. This is done through the use of specific x-rays. These x-rays allow us to see exactly where the misalignment lies and then a gentle adjustment can be tailored to each individual person.
At Kessinger Specific Chiropractic, we do not pop or force the spine into place. Rather, we use a gentle method that allows the bones of the neck to move back into position naturally. This allows the healing properties of the body to take over and restore proper communication and cerebrospinal fluid flow. Once done, as in the case studies mentioned above, many see their migraines go away completely.
