Vertigo Relief, Dizziness Relief, Dizzy, Meniere’s Disease Relief, Vertigo, Dizziness, Meniere’s , Meniere’s Disease When someone experiences vertigo for the first time, it can come as quite a shock. One moment, everything seems fine. Perhaps the person is even lying in bed. The next moment the room is spinning or the person feels like he is spinning. Standing may be out of the question until the episode passes. In fact, the spinning sensation may even lead to nausea.

What are some of the common underlying causes of vertigo? Here are a few:

  • Head trauma (concussions, etc.)
  • Ear infections
  • Hypertension
  • Medication side effects
  • Heart disease

Obviously, some of these underlying conditions are far more serious than others and require immediate attention. For example, if someone thinks he is experiencing vertigo as a symptom of a heart attack, a trip to the ER is in order.

However, most cases of vertigo are not an emergency, and it may be difficult for a physician to pinpoint the underlying cause. As a result, the person gets diagnosed with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

How Vertigo Relates to the Upper Cervical Spine

You may wonder why vertigo often begins after head trauma. This is because head injuries also usually affect the neck. If the upper cervical spine becomes misaligned, it can create pressure on the brainstem or in the spinal cord. These and other effects of the misalignments may lead to vertigo.

Because the neck is related to vertigo, upper cervical chiropractors are in a good position to help. Gentle adjustments can realign the upper cervical spine, relieve the pressure, and give the body the chance to heal from any nerve or tissue damage that has been caused.

In a case study performed by Mayheu et al., a 23-year-old woman had her vertigo completely resolved by upper cervical chiropractic care. And that was after 5 months of suffering from vertigo following an accident. Just one adjustment was all it took, and she was still vertigo-free two months later.

We hope to provide similar results for our patients here at Kessinger Specific Chiropractic.
